This is the scope we price. If something on your project falls outside it, we say so during the estimate rather than after.

Old houses are not square
Plenty of homes around here predate the tape measure being taken seriously. Scribing trim to a wall that leans is the skill this work is actually made of.

The corners stay closed
A miter that opens up in January was cut without accounting for what the wood is going to do when the heat comes on. We account for it.

Finish work happens in rooms you are living in. Dust control and a clean floor at the end of the day are part of the job, not a favor.
What dry winter air does to trim
Heating season in New Hampshire pulls indoor humidity way down, and wood shrinks. That is why joints that looked perfect in August show a hairline in February. Choosing the right material, letting it acclimate in the house first and detailing the joints for movement is the difference between trim that ages and trim that opens up.

Finish Carpentry questions
Can you match trim in an older home?
Usually. Many older profiles are still available or close enough that the eye does not catch it, and where they are not we can build up a profile from stock pieces to match what you have. Send us a photo of a cut end and we can tell you quickly.
Do you paint the trim too?
We install it and we can have it finished. Painting is a trade we bring a partner in for on larger jobs, and we will tell you plainly which part of the work is ours and which is theirs before you agree to anything.
Do you do stairs and railings?
Yes. Handrails, newel posts, balusters and skirt board are all part of this work. Stair rail has code requirements for height and spacing, and getting them right is part of what you are paying for.
