A floor is only as good as what it is sitting on. We install hardwood, engineered and laminate flooring, and we check and correct the subfloor first, because most of the callbacks in this trade are squeaks and lifted seams that were built in before the first plank went down.
What the job actually covers
This is the scope we price. If something on your project falls outside it, we say so during the estimate rather than after.

Three things that change the outcome

The subfloor gets fixed first
Squeaks come from below. Screwing down the subfloor before the finish floor goes on takes an afternoon and saves you living with it.

It acclimates before it goes down
Wood brought in from a cold truck and installed the same day will move. Letting it sit in the house first is not optional here.

The trim carpenter handles the edges
Transitions and base are where a floor job looks finished or looks fast. That is our normal work.
Basements, slabs and moisture
Below grade rooms in New Hampshire houses hold more moisture than the rest of the home, and solid hardwood does not belong down there no matter how good the deal is. Engineered product over the right barrier does. We will check the level of the house and the moisture before recommending anything.

Flooring questions
Solid hardwood or engineered?
Solid can be refinished more times and is the traditional choice above grade. Engineered handles moisture and temperature swings better, which matters in basements, over concrete and in rooms that swing hard between seasons. The right answer depends on which room.
Can you install over my existing floor?
Sometimes, depending on what is there and how much height you can give up at doors and transitions. We would rather look at it than guess, because the height change affects every doorway in the room.
Will it squeak?
Squeaks almost always come from the subfloor moving against its fasteners, not from the finish floor. That is exactly why we check and refasten it before covering it up.
