What the job actually covers
This is the scope we price. If something on your project falls outside it, we say so during the estimate rather than after.

- Priming bare wood, patches and any surface that needs it

On larger painting scopes we bring in a partner. You will know that before you agree to the work, not after.
Exterior paint and the New England calendar
Exterior coatings need surface temperature and dry time, and in New Hampshire that window closes earlier than people expect. Painting a north facing wall in late fall, when it never really dries between overnight lows, is how you end up repainting it. We would rather schedule it right than get it done fast.

Painting questions
Do you do the painting yourselves?
Smaller scopes tied to carpentry we handle directly. For larger interior or full exterior work we bring in a painting partner we have used before. Either way you will be told which it is before the work is scheduled.
Do you repair the wood before painting?
Yes, and that is a good reason to have the carpenter involved. Rotted trim, failed caulk joints and soft sills get fixed rather than painted over, because paint does not stop rot.
How many coats?
It depends on the surface, the color change and whether it is primed. We will tell you what the scope includes in writing rather than leaving it to interpretation.
